There’s been a huge amount of hype around Google Caffeine since the sandbox was launched and again when Google announced that Caffeine was gradually going to be rolled out. Has there been too much hype for a change that Google have assured us shouldn’t seriously impact rankings? Andrew Girdwood explores that question on his blog. What is Google Caffeine? The Google Caffeine update is an overhaul of the underlying Google architecture/framework that will firstly enable Google to index more of the web, and secondly enable them to carry out this indexing faster. Until recently I had never really considered optimising a flash website as a great way to get top search engine rankings, but needless to say I was asked to give advice for a website that had to be built in Flash. Now normally I’d always advise clients against Flash and instead go with a HTML alternative as its more search engine friendly. For a few weeks now the UK SERPs have been a complete mess and no-one really knew what was changing, the SERP roller-coaster finally settled on 27th/28th June and it became apparent that the update that Google rolled out favoured brands, or at least websites that were seen as big online brands. There are still a scattering of US, AU and few other foreign websites in the Google.co.uk SERPs, but seemingly... Read More

Just in case it slipped passed you, the week beginning 25th May saw the long awaited launch of Bing, Microsoft's new search engine and Wave, Google's new communications platform. Now when I said launch neither service actually launched, it turned out to be more of an official unveiling. Microsoft made their unveil date perfectly clear and as such many expected that the big G would come along and launch one of their own products to cast a bit of a shadow over the Microsoft launch and they didn't disappoint! The launch success and buzz could and still can easily be judged by twitter and needless... Read More
